Q. What is the best way to apply foundation? I use Bobbie Brown and it doesn’t seem to be covering my blotches. I use my fingertips and dab it on both cheeks and then rub it in like I would a face lotion. What am I doing wrong? – LisaA. Lisa, here are a few suggestions to create that flawless finish your trying to achieve. Start by prepping your skin with moisturizer and allow it to dry for a few minutes. Look at your face to see if there are any areas that need special attention, ie. dark circles, blemishes or discoloration. Use either a concealer or foundation to cover these areas. (The difference between concealer and foundation is usually the amount of pigment and texture. Concealer tends to have more pigment and a creamy finish.) There is no right or wrong way to apply your makeup. I find that using a small brush to conceal works the best, but you can use your fingers if your the finger painting type. Go ahead and dab those slight imperfections away. Either way, make sure you blend well, but don’t blend it away. After I’ve finished what I call the “spackle process,” I evaluate whether or not foundation is even necessary. If the answer is no, I simply dust a little setting powder on the face to set the concealer and help it last. If more coverage is needed, apply foundation across the forehead, down the nose, on the cheeks, and a drop on the chin. I don’t use a lot, it just sounds like it! A little goes a long way. Blend with a sponge and once again set it with a little powder to hold.Don’t be afraid to experiment until you get it right. It’s just makeup, and it washes off!
